January 13, 2014 - The New York Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors today announced that its Board has elected new officers to lead the organization.  Pamela J. Packard, co-chair of the Chapter’s Programming Committee, was elected Chapter President, and Kenneth P. Kopelman, who has served as Chapter President since 2009, was elected Chair of the Chapter.  James Gunderson, Chair of the Chapter, becomes Chairman Emeritus and remains on the Board.  In addition, Richard H. Girgenti, US and Americas Forensic Service Line Leader, KPMG, LLP, joined the Chapter’s Advisory Board and was elected Chapter Treasurer.  

Commenting on the news, Jim Gunderson said:  “We are gratified to have implemented a smooth leadership transition for our Chapter.  We’re quite fortunate to have such a diverse and talented pool of dedicated Chapter directors to draw from for these important roles.” 

Ken Kopelman added, “Pamela has been a tremendous asset to our Chapter, and I look forward to working with her to continue to serve our membership, as we focus on practical boardroom issues facing directors in today’s environment.  On behalf of NACDNY, I want to express our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Jim Gunderson for his selfless service and steadfast leadership over the years.  Last but not least, I want to welcome Rich Girgenti -- to have someone of Rich’s caliber step in as treasurer is a tribute to the quality of the organization.” 

Ms. Packard, an NACD Governance Fellow, has been a member of the NACDNY board since 2009.  She is President & CEO of Strategic Enterprises, LLC, and also serves as an independent director and chair of the audit committee of BJI Holdings (Brown Jordan International), a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of quality outdoor furniture and furnishings.  Ms. Packard is a member of the board of the Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd., and a former director of BDO Seidman, LLP, now BDO USA, LLP. Ms. Packard previously served on the advisory boards of Planitax, Inc., a leading SaaS (software as a service) provider to corporate tax departments, and Pension Governance, LLC, a web enabled information services company focused on the pension community. Ms. Packard has also served as a director and Secretary of the Women’s Forum Inc., a community of preeminent New York women leaders and as a director and President of the Financial Women’s Association (FWA) of New York, an organization dedicated to developing future leaders and enhancing the role of women in finance.

Mr. Girgenti is the US and Americas Forensic Service Line Leader for KPMG LLP. He has nearly 40 years of experience conducting investigations and providing fraud and misconduct risk management advisory services to clients in all industries, including leading national and multinational public corporations, as well as the public service and not-for-profit sectors.  Mr. Girgenti served as a member of the Board of Directors for KPMG LLP and the Americas, and as the Chair of the Board’s Ethics and Compliance and Nomination Committees, as well as the Governance Task Force.  He is the coauthor of a book – Managing the Risk of Fraud and Misconduct: Meeting the Challenges of a Global, Regulated and Digital Environment (The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., March 2011).
